Should i become a vet nurse/assistant or a people nurse?
Which gets paid better?
and how many eyars do i have to be in college for a people nurse and a vet nurse?
which do you think is better?
Nurse or Vet Nurse?
1) Should i become a vet nurse/assistant or a people nurse? Only you can answer this question for yourself since this is what you will be doing for a living. It really comes down to whether you rather deal with humans or pets.
2) Which gets paid better?
Human nurse! Hands down!
3) and how many eyars do i have to be in college for a people nurse and a vet nurse?
Human nurses can graduate in 4-5 years. Veterinarian technicians sometimes have no schooling, sometimes have a 2 year degree, and sometimes have a 4+ year degree. Greatly depends on your location and the vet office that hires you.
4) which do you think is better?
I am not the best person to ask this question to because I am biased! I absolutely LOVE what I do. I sometimes think I need to be pinched at work because I love my job that much. Like all professions, there are good days and there are bad days. My passion is animals, so this is the perfect career for me.
Reply:People nurses get paid a LOT better in most all cases. BUT, more exposure to diseases that YOU can get!!!!!!!
And personally, I like sticking animals with needles a lot more than I would like sticking people with them!!!!
There MAY still be some two year schools for Vet Tech, and there are for nursing also, but there are also 4 year programs for both. I would do a 4 year for either.
Reply:Vet Tech is definitely intense. I am doing it right now. But you can be an assistant I do believe without any school. I suggest doing 3 year vet tech. I am doing 2 year right now, and I feel I would benefit more from a couple more semesters. Do alot of research for both before getting into either.
Reply:A vet "assistant" probably doesn't require a degree--a registered vet tech is a two year program (associates degree).
To be a registered people nurse (RN) requires two years for an associates degree OR 2-3 years in a hospital diploma program OR 4 years for a bachelor's degree.
You can be an LPN (licensed practical nurse?) in even less time, maybe around a year, though they get paid less.
People nurses definitely get paid more than vet techs and are probably in higher demand.
Neither one is better than the other, it just depends on what you want to do with your life. Good luck!
Reply:I'm a senior year nursing student. RN's (registered nurses) make tons more than Vet Techs. There is a huge shortage of nurses now, so you will easily get a great job. You need to take your science prereqs to get into nursing school, and if you get an associates degree it takes 2 years, if you get a bachelors degree it will take 4 years. New grads can make $68,000 straight out of school in NYC! Plus it's a very rewarding feeling helping people. If you are a vet tech you may have to help put animals to sleep. :(
Reply:Not to sure theres probably a minimum number of years but the more the better..
What do YOU think is better?
Do you like people or dogs more?
